Yep, you read that right. 10 years! 😲 That's commitment, isn't it?
I'm committed to this 1 skincare product because it works! Now let's back up a bit, shall we?
I entered the skincare space back in 2010 when I joined L'Oréal with the mission of launching SkinCeuticals in Western Canada. SkinCeuticals is a medical skincare brand that offers high concentrations of active ingredients to create change and results at the skin level.
I then went to co-found Project Skin MD, aesthetic clinics there to help people age gracefully. I've been swimming in the skincare world for over 10 years now!
Now back to the topic of this blog. I got acquainted with CE Ferulic - yep that's the one - on my very first day at SkinCeuticals. No wonder as it's known as the gold standard of topical Vitamin C.
With a product like that in my portfolio at the time, it made my job a lot easier.
The science behind it is so strong, it blew me - and everyone I encountered - away. I started using it right away and well...never stopped since.
Admits an impressive array of clinical studies, proven outcomes and performing data, what personally got me hooked - aside from my brighter skin - is the clinical indication that using this product once a day reduces the formation of thymine dimmers (DNA mutations leading the skin cancer). Wait, what?
Yep that's right. Dr. Sheldon Pinnell - the founder of SkinCeuticals - first encountered the power of topical Vitamin C when doing skin cancer research at Duke University.
I don't know about you but I'm all about cancer prevention.
When properly administered and absorbed into the skin, vitamin C is such a powerful antioxidant that it neutralizes free radicals (damaging molecules coming from the environment such as pollution, toxins, heat, etc) helping to counteract their damaging impact at the skin level.
What does that mean in clear? Put simply, the skin is 8x more naturally protected and resilient to face the environmental assaults we face on a daily basis. Because let's be honest, I'm not going to stop playing outside!
Just the mere fact of applying this gold serum daily generates this cascade of benefits deep down in your dermis - deepest skin layer. Sign me up 🙋
Vitamin C is also a strong brightening agent by reducing skin oxidation. It's an absolute glow booster!
It holds anti-aging superpowers by smoothing lines and wrinkles while also improving firmness.
Not all Vitamin C are the same
Be warned - the world of skincare Vitamin C is wild out there. It's easy to get confused by marketing claims and false promises.
When shopping for a vitamin C and wishing the outcomes listed above, you have to ensure that your product is formulated as such:
1- Has to be a serum in order to have an acidic pH (or else it doesn't penetrate the skin barrier and just sits on top...aka wasting your money)
2- Has to be pure Vitamin C. Look for L-Ascorbic acid, the only form that will generate the benefits we're after.
3- There should be a high concentration of L-Ascorbic Acid, between 10-20%. Lower won't be enough to yield results while higher will irritate the skin.
As the name states it, CE Ferulic is completed with Vitamin E (lipid replenisher) and Ferulic Acid (an antioxidant from plants) to synergistically boost efficacy.
When shopping for a Vitamin C, ask questions and be curious. It's overwhelming.
From all the brands I know of, CE Ferulic is the only one that delivers to this extent.
The results + how I use it.
For me, this product instantly boosted my luminosity (the glow!). My pigmentation faded away after about 8 weeks of daily use. My skin tone looked healthier, more even in less than 2 weeks.
I love seeing external results but also knowing it's working deep down.
This product is designed to be used once a day and in the morning. In fact, the dermis builds a reservoir for it, therefore retaining protective properties for 24h.
(What that means is don't waste your product to use it twice a day because you like how it feels = useless).
I apply it first thing on clean skin. I pat it on everywhere, always including my neck chest and with what's left I do the top of my hands.
I follow with my moisturizer and SPF in the morning.
It has a unique medicinal smell. Don't worry, the product will penetrate and the smell will go away.
Who should use this?
Anyone wanting to prevent the build-up of future skin damage as well as build the resilience of their skin. If you're looking for a healthier, more radiant skin then consider adding Vitamin C to your routine.
This particular formulation is great for anyone with normal to dry skin (the vitamin E helps with keeping the skin hydrated).
If you are oily, you might prefer Phloretin CF, a slightly different product but equally as powerful.
If you have sensitive skin, it's best to start slow and use Serum 10 every other morning at first.
